Submitting an application for the Dar Literary Prize and voting procedure

Prose works (novel, novella, collections of short stories and essays, documentary prose) published for the first time in 2024 in separate editions or published in magazines are accepted for participation in the contest.

Nominations for the award can be made by publishers, magazine editors, as well as by the authors themselves or third parties (with the author’s consent and written confirmation).

The 'Dar' Award is open to all authors. Given the primary goals of the award—promoting contemporary Russian-language literature beyond the borders of the Russian Federation—and the nature of the prize (a grant for translation), priority will be given to authors whose works have not been previously translated into English, French, or German.

The submission period for the competition will begin on September 1, 2025, and end on October 15, 2025. From the submitted books, the Expert Council will select 12 books that will be included in the shortlist. The shortlist will be announced on January 20, 2026. An independent jury will announce the winner on May 25, 2026. (Each member of the jury selects one to three works from the list. The author whose work receives the highest number of votes is declared the winner.) The winner will receive a grant for translation into three languages: English, German, and French.

Only works published in 2024 are eligible for the competition.
