Evgeny Feldman

Photographer and photojournalist

About the author

Evgeny Feldman is a photographer and photo editor, one of Russia's most renowned documentary filmmakers. Born in 1991, he grew up and lived in Moscow. In January 2022, he left Russia for Latvia, fearing persecution in connection with an extremism case.

From 2012 to 2016, Feldman was a staff photographer for Novaya Gazeta. As a freelance photographer, he has collaborated with Mashable, Meduza, The Washington Post, and GQ Russia. From 2021 to 2025, he worked as a photographer and photo editor at Meduza, and is now working on his own projects.

In 2017–2018, Evgeny Feldman ran an independent photo project called “This is Navalny,” which showed Alexei Navalny’s presidential campaign from the inside. Some of these photos, as well as dozens of other shots taken between 2011 and 2022, were compiled into an album of the same name. Exhibitions based on the project were held in Melbourne, Amsterdam, and Paris.

“This is Navalny” is Feldman's fourth album. The first, “Vroz” (2014/2015), about the revolution and war in Ukraine, was first released in Moscow and then in Kyiv. The second, Super Tuesday and Other Days of the Week (2017), tells the story of the 2016 US elections. The third album, Spartak. Gold (2017), is the story of Moscow's Spartak winning its first championship in 16 years.

In 2018, Feldman launched Svoi, Russia's only glossy magazine dedicated to documentary photography, where he published his own photo stories and the work of other authors. In 2024, Feldman's autobiography, Dreamers Against Cosmonauts: The Courage and Tragedy of Anti-Putin Protest, was published. In it, he recounts in detail the historical events in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus that he witnessed and photographed.
